Business Intelligence / Data Warehouse Architect

The BI/DW Architect combines information technology (IT), business intelligence / data warehousing, and business experience to:

  • Conduct strategic assessments of client’s business models, operations strategy, IT strategy, and data warehousing/business intelligence (DW/BI) strategy and architecture.
  • Make detailed recommendations on improving client’s BI/DW architecture and develop actionable program plans to implement recommendations.
  • Assess client’s BI/DW development methodology and recommend improvements based on the concepts of rapid development (e.g., Agile) and other process methodologies (e.g., CMMI).
  • Create organizational processes for user acceptance of BI/DW projects and assist with transition planning.
  • Elicit management information requirements for business intelligence/data warehousing initiatives through interviews, facilitated workshops and documentation research.
  • Perform source system analysis, relational and dimensional modeling, source-to-target mapping, and extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) design.
  • Provide expert advice on BI/DW tools and technologies, including OLAP, ETL, data mining, metadata management, data quality, and database management systems.

Education, experience, and skills desired:

  • Excellent consulting skills – must be able to build strong relationship with client and work closely with client throughout the project.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills – must be able to write reports, deliver presentations, facilitate workshops and communicate with both technical and business clients.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in management information systems, computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or related technical program.
  • At least 10 years total IT work experience.
  • Six or more years of experience working on enterprise level systems projects with at least 4 years experience working on BI/ DW projects

The following are pluses:

  • MBA and/or graduate degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Ab Initio, Hyperion, and Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus (OBIEE).
  • Geospatial tools and techniques.
